Emerald Ash Borer

Although I knew the area I live in (1000 Islands region in Ontario, Canada) was infested with this destructive beetle a couple of years ago, and I could see the damage they are doing to the ash trees, I was not yet able to find a living adult specimen. Recently I took a closer look to the damaged trees and I could clearly see the marks of their presence. The “D-shaped” exit holes as well as the traces where the larvae ate their way to the tree’s vascular system.

And suddenly, there I saw one…. I could not resist and took many pictures. Later I found another one. On another tree, also not far from my home.
